What is Tooth Enamel?

The hard, outer layer of the tooth that protects against decay.
Tooth enamel is the hardest substance in the human body, covering the outer portion of each tooth above the gum line. It protects teeth from daily wear and tear of biting and chewing, as well as temperature extremes. Once damaged, enamel cannot regenerate, making prevention crucial.
