What is Dental Caries (Tooth Decay)?

Tooth decay caused by bacteria that produce acids that dissolve tooth enamel.
Dental caries, commonly known as cavities or tooth decay, is the breakdown of teeth due to acids produced by bacteria. These bacteria form plaque, which sticks to teeth and produces acids when you eat or drink. If left untreated, caries can progress to the inner layers of the tooth, causing pain and potential tooth loss.
